Catfish Jug Spool
thingiverse
I wanted an efficient way to store line and adjust depth on my catfish jugs. This is how I solved it. The two-piece design allows for easy printing and spacing for adding longer lengths of line. These fit snugly on a piece of 3/4" PVC pipe without needing glue. They come with two different sized notches for #18 and #30 braided/twisted nylon twine, holding 20' of #30 braided twine when set together. To make a complete unit, you'll need: 2 printed spool halves 1 20" piece of thin wall PVC pipe 2 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC end caps 1 3/4" x 3" steel round bar stock for the internal slide weight 1 10" pool noodle that fits snugly on the 3/4" PVC pipe PVC glue to attach the end caps and either #18 or #30 twine When setting these, unspool the required line amount, lock it in the correct notch, and slide the weight to the opposite spool end. Place it in the water and they'll lie flat until a fish hits the bait. When hit, the internal weight will slide to the spool end and the jug will stand straight up in the water. The sound of the weight hitting the bottom will also scare the fish, helping set the hook. You can add reflective tape to the ends for easier nighttime location.
