Cateye composite water bottle cage offset mounts

Update 12 Oct 2019: The original design worked pretty well overall but had its flaws. I redesigned it from scratch using Fusion 360. There are now three distinct parts: * Cateye cage top bolt locator * Cateye cage top bolt spacer * Cateye cage bottom bolt locator The top bolt locator sits between the cage and the frame. The top bolt spacer fits snugly in the top of the cage, designed to be paired with an M5 flat head screw that spreads the load across multiple layers. (Check out the photo.) The lower bolt locator is placed in the large rectangular lower hole and should be used with a standard M5 water bottle cage bolt; I recommend using a larger diameter washer to distribute the weight. The first photo shows this cage after several training rides and a very technical 120km endurance race. It held the bottle perfectly, with no signs of wear or damage afterwards. Cateye makes one of the top water bottle cages available. The design has been around for many years under various brand names but remains solid, reasonably light, and extremely durable. Because of this, we use it on several of our bikes. However, my wife's Scott Scale has uniquely high water bottle cage mounts on the seat tube, leaving barely enough room for a small bottle. (Check out the photos.) It might be possible to use an offset mount like the Wolftooth B-Rad system or this design but on this frame that would cause the bottle to interfere with the cage on the down tube. To avoid this issue, I use these simple mounts to lower the cage by not using standard mount points. To install these spacers, ensure you have long enough M5 screws - at least 15mm should be sufficient depending on your frame. Apply blue LocTite (242) to the threads and insert the screws through these spacers with the screw head on the wide side of the spacers. Insert the spacers with the top spacer in the cutout near the top, and the bottom spacer in the cutout between the stock bottle mounts. Tighten lightly, and you're good to go.
