Caterpie, also known as the "worm" Pokémon,[54] was created by Ken Sugimori's skilled hand.[55] Satoshi Tajiri, the mastermind behind the series, drew heavily from his childhood passion for insect collecting in designing Caterpie and other Pokémon species.[56] Specifically, Caterpie's design is based on a caterpillar, namely the one found on the Swallowtail butterfly.[57] Its name originates from the word "caterpillar." Caterpie boasts vibrant green skin with a bright yellow underbelly, distinctive yellow spots, and an impressive large red osmeterium protruding prominently from their foreheads.[59] Their camouflaged green bodies blend seamlessly into foliage,[60] while their eyes are strategically patterned to deter predators.[61] Equipped with suction-cup feet that enable them to climb any surface, Caterpie can effortlessly ascend steep inclines.[62] Furthermore, the osmeterium on their heads serves as a potent deterrent, projecting a foul stench to repel would-be predators.[63] As the smallest of all original Pokémon,[64] Caterpie grows by shedding its skin, gradually increasing in size.[54] This diminutive creature evolves into Metapod and eventually Butterfree.[65] Prior to Pokémon Platinum, Caterpie's limited capabilities were restricted to learning only two attacks: Tackle and String Shot, rendering it severely handicapped until evolution.[59]\nhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pokémon_(1–51)#Caterpie
