This debris grating fits perfectly into the cockpit drains of early Catalina 22 sailboats, specifically those of the second-generation and likely first-generation models; however, third- and fourth-generation boats switched to transom drains. Two are required. The purpose is to prevent leaves and other debris from clogging the drain lines when the boat is moored or parked on a trailer, as clearing the hoses and through-hull can be an extremely frustrating task. It's worth carefully considering whether to leave them in place while underway, given that they undoubtedly reduce the flow rate through the already undersized drains.
