One of the 38 massive stones forming the Castlerigg Stone Circle in the English Lake District stands tall today. Archaeologists believe that this ancient stone circle was constructed approximately 3,000 BC, making it potentially one of the earliest in England's history. The monument features an oval-shaped enclosure consisting of large stones, a smaller inner circle, and two burial mounds, as well as a solitary outlying stone. A total of 38 massive stones stand upright, some reaching heights of up to three meters, while others lie fallen on the ground, accompanied by three smaller stones. The oval enclosure measures approximately 32 meters north-south and 29 meters east-west in size. Despite modern development encroaching nearby, Castlerigg Stone Circle remains an unspoiled gem, showcasing one of England's finest large irregular stone circles.
