Castle White - Play set
thingiverse
Currently I'm designing a fortress. This is version V0.3 and it's still far from being completed (yet). It's already facing a virtual siege, courtesy of skeletons emerging from the Gate to the Underworld. Hopefully this fortress will be finished soon.
Some Considerations:
Of course there are many beautifully laser-cut castles online, but scaling them down to fit Lego-like minifigs requires significant rework. Castles could also be 3D printed, which would allow for even more intricate features, but that would take a lot of time and filament. That's why I prefer to start from scratch: * Easy to build: using 3D printing & wood cutting (laser/cnc) * Inter-lockable: build the fortress you want. This makes it expandable and disassembling it will make storage much easier. It should also fit on Lego-like base plates (which could be secured with normal bricks on the base plate). * Quick manufacturing & affordable: laser cut the walls and add some printed building block interfacing on top. Laser cutting is also a lot faster than printing. * Fun to play with: Just create a main structure and everything else should be built using other bricks. (Like a bridge in front of the main gate.)
How to Improve?
If you like this project, you probably have many ideas on how to make this fortress play set even better. * What do you think about this approach? * What makes a play set like this fun to play with? * I'm an engineer, not an artist. Some help improving the design is appreciated. * Other comments?
How to Interact?
When you build your own fortress/what-ever, you might want to use the same connection interface. This will not change anymore. See the wall-part (castle_wall_v0.4.stl), for the interlocking interface. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
