I boot up Lightwave and fire up a new scene. The interface looks sleek and modern, but I'm not sure where to start. I've never actually built a 3D model before, so I'm hoping this program will be forgiving. I click on the "create" button and choose the "mesh" option. Suddenly, a bunch of weird-looking icons pop up on my screen. I have no idea what any of them do. I try to select one of the icons, but it just doesn't seem to work. I've tried clicking on it with my left mouse button, right mouse button, and even both at the same time. Still nothing. This is getting frustrating. I'm starting to think that maybe Lightwave isn't as user-friendly as everyone says it is. I decide to try a different approach. Instead of trying to select one of the icons, I'll just type in what I want to do. So, I type "create mesh" and hit enter. This time, something happens! A new window opens up with all sorts of options for creating a mesh. I'm not sure what any of them mean, but it looks like this is where the real work begins. I start by selecting the shape of my castle. I choose a rectangle because it seems simple enough. As soon as I do, Lightwave starts generating a bunch of vertices and edges. I have no idea what any of these things are or why they're so important, but I'm hoping that if I just click on them in the right order, something will magically appear. I spend the next few hours clicking around in Lightwave, trying to get my castle to look like something other than a bunch of random shapes stuck together. It's not going well. My mesh keeps getting all distorted and weird-looking, no matter what I do. I'm starting to think that maybe building a 3D model isn't as easy as everyone says it is. Just when I'm about to give up, I stumble upon something called "subdivision surfaces". I have no idea what this means, but it sounds good, so I click on it. And suddenly, my castle looks like a real castle! It's all smooth and rounded, just like in the movies. I'm amazed. But as soon as I try to add any details to my castle, everything falls apart again. My textures get all distorted and my models start to look like they're melting. I'm starting to think that maybe building a 3D model is more complicated than I thought. I spend another few hours trying to figure out what's going on, but nothing seems to work. I've tried everything from changing the texture settings to messing around with the lighting. Nothing seems to make any difference. I'm starting to get frustrated. Just when I think I'm never going to get this thing working, I stumble upon something called "rendering". I have no idea what this means, but it sounds good, so I click on it. And suddenly, my castle looks amazing! It's all smooth and realistic, just like in the movies. I'm amazed. But as soon as I try to export my model, everything falls apart again. My textures get all distorted and my models start to look like they're melting. I've tried everything from changing the texture settings to messing around with the lighting. Nothing seems to make any difference. I'm starting to get frustrated.
