I designed this mold for pouring molten metal into cast tin form. The user inserts a 3D printed model, and it gets completely surrounded by molding sand - surprisingly effective. Be cautious though; the plastic may melt when coming into contact with the hot metal, but that won't prevent the entire thing from working fine nonetheless.
