Caster
thingiverse
I designed this DIY lawn mower caster specifically for rolling smoothly on grass, so it's optimized for that purpose. I created the design in FreeCAD software using parametric methods, which allows me to quickly generate different sizes with ease. I'll need some time to clean up and optimize the sketch before sharing the complete design. Attached are STL files for a 72mm-high caster from the floor and a 40mm-long wheel. The fork is securely attached to an insert part that's screwed into place using three screws, giving it 360 degrees of freedom. A screw hole on top of the insert prevents the fork and wheel from falling if the base is lifted. To install the wheel, simply spread the forks about 10mm apart, allowing the wheel to snap into the center hole. Assembly is a breeze. Future plans involve designing the insert and fork as a single non-detachable part for even easier installation.
