Recent documentary research has unveiled the possible occupation of the area where the Castell de Marinyén is located during Roman times. However, the most confirmed historical precedents of this fortress date back to the Islamic era. According to P.Guichard's terminology, we should refer to a rural castle type. These castles served as refuges for nearby populations or alquerías. From that time period, only the irregular poligonal floor plan remains, along with the walls (with tabiya coffering), internal wall incisions in water storage tanks and cisterns. The rest consists of Christian constructions from the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries.
