Castell de Barxell

Castell de Barxell

This is a Christian fortification built to control the Moorish population living in the surrounding area. Although the roofs have disappeared, it retains its entire walled enclosure, a probable Muslim-era alcázar completely adapted to the terrain. It still conserves remnants of loopholes and two gates, with the main entrance located on the east side. Its purpose was to provide shelter for the population of nearby alquerías during times of danger, such as during wars against Castile, in which its garrison was reinforced.
