About 400 years ago, in our very own Milky Way galaxy, a massive star exploded in a spectacular supernova blast, its mass roughly 15 to 20 times that of our Sun. Thanks to the incredible data collected and analyzed using the cutting-edge Chandra X-ray Telescope, we can now witness the remnants from this cataclysmic explosion, Cassiopeia A, in breathtaking three dimensions. Here's a cross-sectional 3D-printable model that vividly showcases the shape of the explosion as it appears today, revealing the hidden interior neutron star left behind by the blast. This model highlights one half of a two-part masterpiece, which we'll refer to as "the top half".
