About 450 years ago, in our own Milky Way galaxy, a star that was roughly 18 times the mass of our Sun exploded in an incredible supernova explosion. Thanks to the vast amounts of data collected and meticulously processed using the Chandra X-ray Telescope, we can now see the remnants from that colossal blast, Cassiopeia A, in stunning 3 dimensions. Here is a cross-sectional 3D-printable model, clearly showing the shape of the explosion as we see it today and revealing the interior neutron star left behind by this cataclysmic event. This model showcases one half of a unique 2-part model, which we will call "lower section".
