The Agris helmet is one of the most beautiful masterpieces of Gallic craftsmanship and art. Deposited in a cave, considered by the Celts as an entrance to the underworld, this helmet was probably made only for the purpose of being offered to an underground divinity. The absence of human remains near the helmet at the time of its discovery, combined with the exceptional richness of its materials and the fineness of its decoration, supports this hypothesis. Dating back to the 4th century BC (around -350), the Agris helmet was made using iron, bronze, gold, silver, and coral. It was discovered in the Perrats cave at Agris in Charente. Inv. No.: D981.9.1 state deposit in the archaeological collections of the Angoulême Museum (Charente - France). See the entry in our online database. 3D digitization: Spider scanner - Artec3D.
