Case for Stratux ADS-B Receiver
thingiverse
This is a case design for an ADS-B receiver utilizing a Raspberry Pi computer with SDR dongles to receive, decode and transmit aviation weather and traffic information to tablet-based apps like Foreflight. The Stratux project was initiated by a pilot/programmer who uses this setup to access critical flight data. Two NooElec Nano 2 SDR dongles are easily accommodated within this compact design, thanks to strategically placed holes for the microSD card, power connector and SMA bulkhead connector for an external antenna. Access is also provided for the HDMI and audio/video connectors, giving users a flexible setup that meets their needs. Although there's no provision for a GPS or AHRS module in this design, using an iPad with built-in GPS eliminates the need for these components. I personally opted for a more compact build to minimize clutter and maximize usability. Heat buildup may be a concern in certain situations, but so far, my Stratux setup has performed flawlessly. Six #2 screws are used to secure the Raspberry Pi board and top case together – four holding the board and two securing the top. These screws were sourced from microfasteners.com. A Y-cable is utilized to split the single antenna feed evenly between each SDR dongle, ensuring seamless signal transmission. This Y-cable was purchased through Amazon, specifically from this link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015ASUJ48/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1461766344&sr=8-1&keywords=SMA+femal e+to+Y+type+2X+L+MCX+male+right+angle+Spliter+Combiner+cable+pigtail+RG316 This case was expertly printed in white ABS using i-SOLIDS's Hub at 3dhubs.com. I'm incredibly pleased with the results, and I believe this setup offers a robust solution for pilots seeking to enhance their flight experience. When designing this case, I relied on SketchUp! and utilized the RoundCorner plug-in to add a touch of elegance with rounded corners. The end result is a sleek and functional design that meets all my requirements.
