Case for LCR-T4 Tester

Case for LCR-T4 Tester

thingiverse

I started designing a case for my LCR-T4 meter after taking measurements and visualizing how it would look. Then, I wondered why not check Thingiverse? Maybe someone else had already created a design for this gadget. A quick search led me to find one that matched what I was designing, but with some differences - the battery placement above the meter instead of below, and numbers on the ZIF socket reminding which spaces connected to. After opening the .stl files in Tinkercad, they seemed like they should fit all my LCR-T4 meters. So, I printed the first version, but it was too narrow for the meter. It seems that old saying about measuring twice and cutting once really applies - except I didn't measure at all. Next, I printed the wider version of the case, assuming it would fit since it was wider than the first one. But nope, it still wouldn't fit. After 10 hours of printing and using up a few meters of filament, I finally had a case that fit perfectly. The screw holes lined up perfectly in both cases I printed, but when I disassembled the second print, I realized the opening for the ZIF socket needed to be moved just over a millimeter from the center. This time, I measured first and then opened the stl files in Tinkercad. I broke down the parts into separate pieces, made some adjustments, and printed again. I'm thrilled with the results and want to thank egil for creating the original design that I built upon: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:797733 This case will fit all the narrower LCR-T4 testers too.
