Case for CHIP and LiPo battery - Lego compatible
thingiverse
This is a showcase for Next Thing Co.'s C.H.I.P. computer, featuring a screw hole that perfectly matches the included CHIP screw. The case boasts holes for Lego Technic beams on either side, Lego studs on top, and the bottoms of Lego plates in each bottom corner. Measuring exactly 8x8 Lego studs, the entire package has all side ports exposed while the CHIP is cleverly hidden from view in the front and back, giving it a more professional appearance. Ventilation for the bottom side of CHIP is achieved through the bottom row of Technic holes on either side as well as two slits at the bottom of the case, designed to resemble similar slits found on the LEGO Mindstorms NXT Intelligent Brick. Due to a slightly thicker wall design and the ~1mm overhang of the MicroUSB port on CHIP, users must carefully insert the CHIP "one end at a time." The entire case stands 5 Lego plates tall but requires four 1x2 plate "stilts" in each corner to fit atop an existing Lego model due to a design limitation at the bottom. With no top (although users can build one with Legos if desired), GPIO ports are exposed within the case. EDIT: I've designed a companion battery case for this very case, carefully crafted to house my PocketCHIP battery. It features a similar style but is four plates tall, has only one row of Technic pieces, and two full rows on the bottom for Lego studs. This design allows it to snap into the bottom of the CHIP case while encouraging users to prioritize adequate ventilation. If users prefer full rails on top, they can achieve this using 2 1x8 Lego plates. Although this case was designed to attach to the bottom of the CHIP case, it can also be placed on top (with a few modifications). To insert the battery into the case, simply thread the wires through the slot and then fit the battery into its enclosure. I utilize this setup in conjunction with mindjacker to control my Lego Mindstorms brick. Print Settings: Printer: Monoprice Select Mini Rafts: No Supports: No Infill: 10% is fine Notes: Brim can be a challenge to remove from LEGO pieces on the bottom.
