The German internet shop, Pollin, stocks a 7" monitor, the LS-7 (or LS-7T as touch version), for an affordable price. The non-touch version is priced at 40 Euros and the touchscreen version costs 50 Euros. With a display resolution of 1024x600, it can scale down inputs up to 1080p. It comes equipped with HDMI, DVI, and VGA connectors, making it an excellent fit for devices like the Raspberry Pi, ODROID U2/3 or other small computers. The author plans to use it with an ODROID that controls his ShapeOko router. Testing reveals that the inductive touch function works well for button-based interfaces and even on-screen keyboards are usable. However, the monitor lacks an enclosure; the user designed an enclosure in Sketchup. The components fit snugly inside once mounted. The only connector not on the main board is the composite (CVBS) socket, which needs to be snipped off. Composite video is becoming obsolete, though. Due to the display and board construction, if mounted back-to-back, the DVI/HDMI/VGA sockets are positioned awkwardly for holding the display. To resolve this, one can rotate the screen image by 180 degrees using extensions like XRandR in Linux or AltGr-DownArrow in Windows. To use the monitor with a touchscreen controller, cut off the isolation on the magnet around the USB cable, plug the display into the touchscreen controller, and mount it with two M3 screws. Thread the USB cable through a designated U-channel at the bottom of the case, fasten it with a cable tie if necessary, and plug the display cable into the main board. Push the round black power connector into its hole and snip off the CVBS connector. Finally, push the top housing onto the bottom, securing it with two M3 socket head screws. To avoid short circuits, tape over the back of the display and the main board. The enclosure is designed to fit a printing surface at least 20x20cm; print the bottom and top panels, thread holes for mounting, and assemble the button panel and touchscreen controller accordingly.
