Marilyn was born at a military hospital in Tidworth, England, Wiltshire, to an English father serving in the British Army and a Maltese mother. She spent her early years living in Germany and various parts of the UK, eventually settling in Staffordshire for school. Pursuing education, she studied to become an art teacher. Her first job teaching art in Leamington Spa led to a move to Nottingham, where she continued teaching at a Derbyshire school. Launching a career After her daughter Katie's birth, Marilyn began creating paintings and designing greeting cards, which she sold initially at craft fairs and later to the trade through her small business, "Paper Kite".
