Carved Grizzly Tooth after Skukum Kilay

Carved Grizzly Tooth after Skukum Kilay

The Skukum Kilay is a fictional ancient Northwest tribal artifact with magical powers, carved from a grizzly tooth. It depicts the grizzly and the mutilated face of the girl he killed. A serialized story in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in 2001 described the tooth; the story can be found in their archive. The story tells of the tooth's origin and the lives of the early and present-day Puget Sound inhabitants touched by it. I've reconstructed the tooth from one picture and the narrative description of the hidden faces. The original was carved, details and tools unknown, and it is described as taking many years.
