Carved Figure, Melrose Abbey
sketchfab
This fragment of a sculpted dragon-like creature has been masterfully crafted from a block of medium-grained sandstone. The damage is unmistakable, with one side and the upper portion expertly cut away, indicating that the stone was reutilized at some point in its history. A recognizable lion's head remains intact, while the stone beneath it bears an intricate texture meant to resemble scales. The creature's tail appears to have curled over onto one side of the head, a testament to the original craftsmanship. Once a part of Melrose Abbey, this relic dates back to around the 1200s.
