Cartonnage Mask of a Young Lady
myminifactory
Cartonnage is a versatile material employed in Ancient Egyptian funerary masks from the First Intermediate Period all the way through the Roman era. Crafted with layers of linen or papyrus coated with plaster, it forms an integral part of these elaborate masks. Many Fayum mummy portraits are skillfully painted on panels constructed from cartonnage. This remarkable object was showcased at The Masterpiece Fair in 2018. Since its discovery, this work has remained within the confines of a private collection: Mr. Jean Louis Depras owned it in Paris during the mid-1960s, followed by a Private Canadian Collection which held it from the 1960s until present.
