Cartonnage is a type of material used in Ancient Egyptian funerary masks from the First Intermediate Period right through the Roman era. It's made up of layers of linen or papyrus covered with plaster. Some of the Fayum mummy portraits are also painted on panels crafted out of cartonnage. This object was part of The Masterpiece Fair, 2018. Since its discovery, this work has remained in a private collection: Mr. Jean Louis Depras held it in Paris from the mid-1960s. In the 1960s it passed into a Private Canadian Collection where it remains to this day.
