Cartington Carriageway B (March 2006)
sketchfab
Boulder on moorland near Old Rothbury hillfort, north of Rothury, Northumberland. This stone sits just outside the scheduled area of the hillfort and cairnfield, referenced as 'Cartington Carriageway B' on the Beckensall Archive (BA). Stan Beckensall drew a complex design of cups and rings on this slab, but the archive described it differently: "Many small cups and rings are almost invisible on this stone, including tiny cups that seem to be pick marks ready to join together into grooves." In 2006, the NADRAP team couldn't find any of these motifs, and they still aren't visible here. Have they worn away or was the wrong stone identified? ERA & BA info: https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=1190. The 3D model was created from five stereo pairs captured by Joe Gibson of NADRAP Team 3 in March 2006. This imagery is part of the full NADRAP archive deposited with Historic England & Northumberland County Council.
