The Carryball is a lightweight portable light that runs solely on sunshine. A commercially available solar powered LED garden ball is transformed into a portable light by attaching a 3D printed handle and base to it. During the day, the garden ball absorbs sunlight through its photovoltaic panel and stores energy in its built-in battery. When night falls, the battery powers a high brightness LED that turns the ball into an illuminated orb. The 3D printed handle and base are designed with separate parts that can be easily assembled using M4 x 10mm nylon bolts. Two small protrusions on the base match perfectly with two recesses in the globe to secure it firmly in place. Only minimal support structures are required for printing, which are included in the print files. It takes roughly an hour to print each part of the handle and base. The handle and base shown were printed using Colorfabb Light Brown PLA/PHA on a Felix 3 printer. The light globe itself is made from translucent plastic and contains a high brightness white LED, a color-changing RGB LED, a 98mm x 81mm photovoltaic panel, a rechargeable lithium battery, and an on-off switch. However, the solar powered light globe is not included in the print files.
