Carry Holster

Hello all, I'm Nguyen Chi Sinh, a student at HCM city University of Technology and Education, also known as UTE. I'm studying Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing. This is my submission for the Extreme Redesign: Engineering Post Secondary Education challenge. My approach to this challenge centers around safety and self-defense, so my redesign is a carry holster. The idea struck me while watching a YouTube video about carry holsters. I noticed that traditional carry holsters have some major drawbacks, including bulky designs, complicated construction, and discomfort. They often feature metal clips that attach to the inside of your pants or jeans, making them uncomfortable when sitting. In reality, these holsters don't fit everyone, particularly larger individuals. To address this issue, I redesigned my holster to be more versatile and convenient. It can be worn with a sling or belt, allowing you to place it anywhere on your body for added comfort and convenience. Given the popularity of the Glock family, especially the Glock 17, I designed my holster specifically for this firearm. My goal is to create a simple design that will revolutionize the way people carry firearms. To achieve this, I chose ABS plastic due to its exceptional strength, durability, weather resistance, and low melting point, making it ideal for manufacturing. The resulting product weighs only 31 grams and measures 120x75x30 mm in size. For mass production, I recommend injection molding.
