Here's how it works: You start by setting up your scene in 3ds Max 2010 with V-Ray 2.40.03. Then, you save out an FBX file that doesn't have the fur texture on the carpet model called Shaggi, but only includes its geometry. When you get to rendering time, make sure to switch from the hair and fur modifier's Geometry mode over to MR prim Mode under the Hair & Fur settings tab inside Effects render. Then convert your whole system into Metric units in case the default system units are still in Inches or any other unit. Don't forget that you should remove the model's original geometry for optimal rendering results since the modifiers will already do all of the real-time computations for hair and fur dynamics - simply load the proxies right before going through a render session for that part which generally requires a lot less computing power compared to geometry based method even when you are working with relatively simple objects!
