Carpal Tunnel Corrector: Macbook Pro Retina 15' Edition
thingiverse
This product is designed to reduce the discomfort caused by Macbook (and laptop) users who experience carpal tunnel syndrome & to prevent it in users who do not already have it. There are two files above, one is the actual product, which when printed in full scale will fit perfectly around a macbook pro 15' retina edition laptop. The second file is the full sized model of a macbook. When reduced in size you can print the two and they will fit perfectly with eachother. I was inspired by the (ugly) carpal tunnel mitt that my dad has. It is this velcro and plastic contraption that you have to wear while youre typing to reduce the pain. So i figured why not put your wrist in the same position, just minus the ugly glove. This is where my idea came from. My goal was to create a more appealing way for people to deal with carpal tunnel syndrome, and the discomfort caused by it. Thank you for being interested in my design! Instructions To create my thing, i took the exact measurements of the average human hands (male and female), the angle your wrist should be at while typing and the measurements of the macbook to ensure that it fit around it seemlessly. (These are shown above in the gallery). I then designed it in auto cad and proceeded to 3D print it. To print my design in full scale just print the first file of the actual design (not the macbook unless you want it as well). Depending on the size of your printer, you may need to print it in peices because it is rather large. To do so i would recommend cutting it down the middle of the trackpad opening and super gluing the peices together once printed. To print the smaller scale version ( which is only usefull as a scale model ) print both files at 30% of the original size, this is the size i used for this project as it was my summative and i could not print the full scale product. It worked effectively and the design fit onto the macbook seemlessly.
