Carl Blümer was a skilled sculptor and classical archaeologist who led the Collection of Classical Antiquities on Museum Island from 1947 until 1961, producing numerous catalogs on ancient sculptures held in the collection since 1940. The bust was crafted by Kurt Harald Isenstein, a German sculptor and art teacher, who also created the bust of Albert Einstein standing outside the Einstein Tower in Potsdam. Isenstein fled Germany due to prosecution for his Jewish heritage, eventually settling in Denmark before moving to Sweden and returning to Denmark.
