You'll need a box that can accommodate the 72 tiles in the standard edition of Carcassonne. To measure your requirements accurately, try counting out 36 tiles end to end; their thickness may differ somewhat, after all. The default dimensions worked great for my tiles, but I've seen cases where another set required adjustments to hold 68 tiles instead.
