The Italian military sought to upgrade its arsenal by introducing the Carcano M38, a rifle designed to fire a 7.7mm cartridge. However, World War II intervened, and the production was redirected to meet urgent demands, rendering the original ammunition supply chain insufficient. The M38 was eventually replaced by another model due to these logistical constraints, marking a significant deviation from the initial plan.
