Carbon Fibre Climbing Axe Mould
thingiverse
I experimented with developing climbing axes in the 90's, creating hybrid carbon fibre/aluminium models that were lighter and more technical than their predecessors. These prototypes laid the groundwork for my later work on fully cast carbon fibre axes. The mould I used to create one such prototype dates back to 2001, crafted using PTC pro/E 2000i software and "milled out" with MasterCAM on a 5-axis CNC milling machine. I employed a bladder to expand the carbon fibre into the mould, resulting in a single viable prototype that served as a testbed for further development. However, the project was ultimately abandoned early on, leaving it as an unfinished pre-prototype that failed to achieve functionality.
