Carbon Fiber Mountain Bike Front Triangle

Carbon Fiber Mountain Bike Front Triangle

grabcad

This CAD model showcases a custom-designed carbon composite frame replacing the aluminum front triangle of my 2013 Rocky Mountain Element. The large 19" frame features components from Rock West Composites - head tube, seat tube, and bottom bracket. The main pivot and link pivot were mandrel-wrapped, while shock mounts underwent compression molding. The frame was segmented for 3D printing, laminated, vacuum bagged, trimmed, and assembled using a fixture. Structural layups wrapped the frame, which was de-bulked with elastic compression banding. The model encompasses three configurations: frame design, core segmented for printing, and layup jigs shown. Additional elements include an alignment jig for the carbon fiber mountain bike front triangle and shock mount compression mold tools.
