The European cyprinid, also known as the silver gibel carp or Prussian carp (Carassius gibelio), belongs to a diverse family of fish that includes many species, such as the common carp and minnows. Reaching a medium size, it typically doesn't weigh more than 6.6 pounds (3 kg) or grow longer than 45 cm. These silver-toned fish come in various colors, but their diet mainly consists of plankton, invertebrates, plant matter, and detritus. Originating from Siberia, they have spread to Europe, North America, and Asia, where they inhabit slow-moving lakes, ponds, and rivers.
