Caracena Castle (Soria)
sketchfab
The castle of Caracena in Soria is situated atop a hill from which the locality is dominated at an elevation of 1150 meters and approximately one kilometer south of the population, nestled between the gorges that form the Barranco de los Pilones and the Gargantas, which empty into the Caracena River. It is among the best preserved in the Province. Built with rubble masonry, a wall runs along the high ground between the gorges and serves as the base for the tower of homage and north wall of the inner courtyard, both dating to the 15th century. A double enclosure of artificial moat and an access route in zigzag, highly protected, can also be observed. The inner courtyard has a rectangular floor plan. The exterior follows the contours of the interior, with ten hollow cubes featuring artillery adjuncts. It is still possible to appreciate the remains of vaulted rooms, cisterns, and blown garitones.
