Car roof protector holders
thingiverse
I've got this thing called a car, it's quite common in the 21st century (at least in the first quarter). Sometimes I leave it out in the sun, and it gets scorching hot. Sometimes I even have things inside that I don't want to get overheated. And sometimes it's raining ice-cube balls and my car doesn't like that one bit. Here's the part where you'll ask "Why don't you get proper protection like a normal person?" First of all, where am I gonna find a condom that big? And second, I'm a sucker for... Well, let's just leave it at that. Okay, on a more serious note, these holders hold a protection sheet (or any sheet, for that matter) above the roof, so sunlight doesn't directly hit your car's roof, but you still have full access to the doors. This was designed for my mk.3 Subaru Impreza with roof rails, it might work with other roof rails too. For one set, you'll need 1 holder, 1 long bolt, and 1 short bolt. I've got 4 of these sets for my car. The holder has two threaded holes - the hole on the back is for the short bolt, which you use to fix the holder in position on the roof rail, and through the top hole comes the long bolt that holds your protector in place. I designed it with SolidWorks 2016, and I'm attaching SW files so you can redesign the holder to fit your car. I did put an emblem on it, but I had some serious ghosting issues. You can delete it from the SW part. Post-processing was a breeze - just sanding the holders, applying some car body filler (spray), and sanding it again. After that, paint was applied. Check out this great post-printing tutorial by Jure Korber in Post-Printing. The picture shows it holding a blanket I have in my car.
