Car Phone Holder Repair Ring

The phone holder for my car snapped, and it broke with a peculiar twist. The threaded collar on its back that screws onto tapered fingers clamping onto a plastic orb shattered. In the picture to the left, you can see the distinct crack at the 6 o'clock mark. I pondered 3D modeling the part along with the threads to fix it, but then a better idea struck me: simply encasing the broken section in a ring. This repair works because it prevents the inner ring from expanding as it tightens. The new part prints quickly, taking just a few minutes, and I avoided wasting hours tweaking the thread and reprinting prototype parts that ultimately ended up in the trash.
