Car Phone Dock v2
thingiverse
I designed version two of my phone dock with a specific purpose in mind: to allow for seamless connection of my phone to my car's infotainment system using Apple Car Play or Android Auto, all while minimizing interaction and maximizing convenience. To achieve this, I engineered the dock to clip onto the bottom of a car's center console, making it possible to swiftly connect my phone with just one hand. To ensure a secure hold on the car's carpet without compromising its integrity, I opted for a design that requires stick-on Velcro on the back of the dock. This approach not only preserves the original finish of the center console but also provides a firm grip, guaranteeing stability and preventing any unwanted movement. At the base of the dock, a centrally located hole accommodates the cable, while a grub screw holds it firmly in place. This thoughtful design detail ensures that the cable remains securely connected, reducing the risk of damage or disconnection during use. The internal dimensions of the phone dock are carefully tailored to accommodate most smartphones: 74mm wide and 11mm thick. The cable opening measures 13mm x 7mm, providing ample space for a variety of cables. If you don't have access to CAD software, don't worry – you can easily adjust the scale of each axis in your slicer to suit your phone's unique dimensions.
