Car laptop charger solution with enclosure using a widely available cheap DC-DC 250W boost converter. No supports needed.Tried USB-PD car charger, but these mostly lack a boost converter so voltage never exceeds battery voltage. At 12V this is to low for charging most laptops. This solution works great for my HP elitebook.Components used:8 x M3 countersunk screws8 x M3 4x5 threaded inserts250w DC-DC Boost converter from aliexpress. 12V 5A High Power Male Car Cigarette Lighter Socket Plug ConnectorFor a HP latop charger charging at max 45 watt you may need additionally:500K ohm resistor tied between ID/Sense pin and the 19.5V output, this will limit the draw of the laptop to about 45-50 Watts.Fuse 5A slow connected between the 12V of the car plug and the input of the boost converter.HP 4.5X3.0 4.5*3.0Mm Dc Power Charger Plug, wires: Black = GND, White = 19.5V, Blue = ID/Sense pin.Tune the trimmers of the boost converter to a voltage of 19.9V and a maximum current of 2.5A.This solution can be adapted for other laptops as well. Caution other brands and laptop might have alternative solutions that identify the charger and limit the current draw.Have fun, would love to see your solution.
