The phone end of a standard Lightning or MicroUSB/Type-C cable can easily short out the contacts inside the 12V cigar lighter outlets, causing massive sparks and damage - I know firsthand. Our car came with only the cigar lighter and no dummy plug to cover it, so I designed one that works well for me. There are two versions: a standard one and another with a small hole added for fixing if you're concerned about losing it. I also added a lightning icon as decoration and marking. Tried it out, and found no rattle; however, be cautious with the ears since they may be a bit fragile - see print notes for more information.
