Captain Proton's ray gun and jetpack controller
cults3d
This is Captain Proton's trusty sidearm from Star Trek Voyager, versatile enough to serve as a general-purpose ray gun of the 1950s variety. I constructed it by starting with a high-resolution jpeg photo of a prop, meticulously tracing it manually in Inkscape, and then exporting some elements as paths while others were transformed into inflations using my custom-made inflatemesh plugin. For optimal results, I recommend painting it instead of simply printing it in blue - although this might make it look more authentic, it could also be easily mistaken for a real gun from a distance. If the pegs don't fit snugly, try sanding them or resizing them to 98% for a better fit. I've also included a modified version of John Lewis's ("propaholic") Captain Proton chest plate as part of the full costume, along with a cylindrical knob for the top two adjustment dials and a tweaked pointer knob courtesy of sb43201. Revisions have been made to add knobs for jetpack integration, knurling details, a handle inset, pegs for joining halves together, and an improved gunsight design.
