LeChuck is a fictional pirate captain in the Monkey Island series of graphic adventure games. Created by Ron Gilbert for LucasArts, LeChuck made his debut in The Secret of Monkey Island and has since become the chief antagonist of the series. Gilbert drew inspiration from characters in the 1988 novel On Stranger Tides when developing LeChuck's concept. An undead pirate captain, LeChuck is consumed by a relentless pursuit of Elaine Marley's affections and a deep-seated desire for revenge against Guybrush Threepwood, who consistently thwarts his plans. On occasion, LeChuck has been portrayed as Guybrush's brother in some storylines. Throughout the series, LeChuck has taken many forms, including a ghost, a zombie, and a demon. Despite being sometimes gullible and naive, LeChuck is an incredibly powerful and intelligent villain who wields voodoo magic to further his megalomaniacal ambitions. The character has received widespread acclaim from video game critics.
