Capsule filler
thingiverse
I suffer from migraines, a debilitating condition that can strike at any moment. Several years ago, I stumbled upon an amino acid called Taurine, which has been a miracle worker in alleviating my symptoms. Fortunately, I can source Taurine in various forms, each with its pros and cons. One option is the energy drink, which is ready to consume but comes with drawbacks such as excessive ingredients like caffeine that I don't need. Moreover, it tastes unpleasant and is quite expensive compared to other alternatives. Furthermore, it's not recommended to exceed one serving per day, and its shelf life is relatively short. Another option is the capsule form, which is also ready to consume and offers a somewhat flexible dosage of 500mg per capsule. However, this format has its limitations, including scarcity and higher costs compared to other forms. The powder form, on the other hand, is very affordable when purchased in bulk, easy to find, and allows for flexible dosages with an extremely long shelf life. Nonetheless, it requires preparation by mixing with a liquid, which can be time-consuming, especially during a migraine attack. To circumvent these limitations, I've come up with a solution: buying Taurine powder in bulk and filling empty gel capsules manually. This approach not only saves money but also ensures that each capsule is filled precisely to my needs. While one can purchase the necessary equipment to fill capsules from pharmacies, I see no need for such complexity when a 3D printer can simplify the process. In fact, I've designed a 5x3 demo filler for 15 capsules, and although I'm still experimenting with this concept, it shows promise. However, there's room for improvement. Upon further reflection, compacting all capsules at once might not be the most efficient approach. Perhaps creating a "stick" to fill and compact them individually would be a better strategy. This idea is still in its infancy, and I need to think through the details before moving forward.
