A group of seventh graders worked on a project inspired by The Imaginary Marching Band. They used the Serial-MIDI Converter, GarageBand, and Arduino to create conductive materials in the form of their heads. Initially, they used the Kinect with Kyle McDonald's KinectToSTL, followed by Autodesk's 123D Catch. After printing the heads, silicone molds were created using The Complete Sculptor's Resilpom 2. The students experimented with various materials like jello with added salt, conductive dough, water, and ice to test their conductivity. To set up Serial-MIDI connection, download Spikenzielab's Serial-MIDI converter, the midibus library, and follow instructions for Audio MIDI Setup in Apple's GarageBand. Finally, they launched GarageBand, selected Piano, and set preferences to direct MIDI data from the Arduino setup. The students also experimented with an LDR and CapSense Library for further modifications.
