Capo Colonna is the headland that determines the western limit of the Gulf of Taranto, located 10 kilometers south of the city of Crotone, where stands the last column of the Temple of Hera Lacinia remaining erected. Its importance lies in the quantity of historical elements linked to this point of land jutting out into the Ionian Sea. Until the XVI century remained at their place many columns of the temple of Hera Lacinia, for this reason the headland was called Capo delle Colonne. Unfortunately, it was used as a quarry for worked stones until only one column remained standing among the ruins.
