The Capitoline Venus is an ancient marble statue that depicts the goddess Venus in a state of modesty. This type of statue, known as Venus Pudica, has several variants, including the Venus de' Medici, which are recognizable by their unique arm positions. Standing after a bath, Venus covers her breasts with one hand and her groin with the other. The original version of this type of statue is believed to have been created in Asia Minor during the 3rd or 2nd century BCE. It was likely inspired by Praxiteles' work, but with some key differences. While Praxiteles depicted Venus covering herself with one hand, the Capitoline Venus shows her using both hands to conceal her modesty, giving the statue a more carnal and voluptuous feel.
