Expertly crafted stone capital features pairs of birds perched at each corner, their talons grasping lush bunches of grapes; intricate floral patterns adorn the lower sides of each face, while a series of meticulously drilled circles adds visual interest around the top edge. This 19th- or early 20th-century masterpiece is reminiscent of an original from the 12th century. Gifted to Caroline R. Hill by unknown donors, this treasure was digitized in 2019 by Laura Weston, lmweston@mtholyoke.edu.
