The Final Judgement unfolds on a short side, set prominently on the left. As Christ returns at the end of time, he sits in glory within an almond-shaped mandorla borne aloft by two majestic angels, who bring him to pass judgement over both the living and the dead. Across from this scene, the Cross that heralds the coming of the Son of Man shines with precious stones, its center encircled by a shroud in which Christ was laid to rest. Two triumphant angels bear it aloft. This is the earliest known representation of this theme in monumental Romanesque sculpture. On either side, the dead burst forth from their tombs as the sound of trumpets blown by the angels echoes through the air.
