The console, adorned with acanthus leaves and other lavish Renaissance details, originated from a fort situated on the Adriatic coast. Giovanni della Rovere, Lord of Senigallia and nephew of Pope Sixtus IV, had commissioned this fort. Instead of resting upon a capital, this object would have been positioned to protrude into the wall at the exact point where the vaulted ceiling meets the wall, serving as an elegant finishing touch rather than providing substantial architectural support.
