During a historic low point for the Mississippi River in 2012, a small shipwreck emerged along the banks at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Initially mistaken for a common barge, over time erosion has revealed components that show the vessel was indeed self-propelled. It appears to have been constructed around the turn of the century or as late as the 1920's. Research continues on the site to better understand this mystery wreck as river levels permit. Meanwhile, it remains an intriguing aspect of Mississippi River watercraft history and archaeology.
